Andrew Merrigan is a multi-faceted performing artist, filmmaker, and choreographer. Andrew began dancing at age 2. His taps have taken him from Maui, Hawaii to Riesa, Germany and everywhere in between. He has trained throughout North America with the greatest tap dancers to ever wear the shoes. Since graduating with a BFA Dramatic Arts – Theatre (Performance) from the University of Lethbridge, Andrew has been seen on stages around Canada and on television sets in North America. Andrew’s passion for telling stories is what drives him to write, produce, and direct. He has received praise for his work as a theatre director and filmmaker in Canada.
Growing up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Andrew always dreamed of telling stories, captivating audiences, and entertaining millions. From live dance to classical theatre or contemporary film, he has yet to find a performative medium in which his artistic expression is unfulfilled. He believes in hard work, diligent preparation, long hours, and the idea that every project is a new opportunity to grow and collaborate.
Since emerging into the professional world, Andrew has connected with many elite artistic professionals, providing a vibrant network of knowledge, resources, and collaborators across Canada and the United States. From classes at The Second City to performing with Theatre Calgary, Andrew has worked with professionals such as Canadian playwriting icon Sharon Pollock, Stratford Festival alumni Haysam Kadri & Diane D’Aquila. He has studied with Chicago improv legend Michael Gellman, and for Spontaneous Theatre with the dynamic creator/performer Rebecca Northan.
Currently based out of Toronto, Ontario, Andrew teaches dance locally and is available for freelance creative work in film, stage, comedy, and dance. Andrew’s choreography has won numerous awards across Canada. As a writer, producer, and director, he has been selected as the winner of a $10,000 grant from TELUS StoryHive on two occasions. Andrew is known among the Toronto commercial film industry for his work ethic and reliability. He has experience in many positions onset, including Assistant Direction, Grip & Light, and Production.
